The Chase

By: Nileena Sunil

I’ve been running away from you over several lifetimes. Every time I’m reborn, you’re there to chase me.

You were the Babylonian general who hunted me down in Assyrian Nineveh. The Venetian crusader who threw me off a ship in Constantinople. The German agent who assassinated me during the Second World War.

The Federation supersoldier who had me executed during World War Four. I am now the last human on Earth.

It is a relief to no longer be hunted. I now live peacefully, amid the plants and trees.

Suddenly, I notice an outline in the sky. It’s a spaceship.
