Heaven’s Stray

By: Greg Clumpner

Between the rows of mismatched beds, Bobby peered through the telescope, watching light flow behind the hurtling ball of minerals. Trailing plasma ignited like his father’s rage after returning from the bowling alley. Fragments broke away, streaking the sky like his mother’s mascara. Particles vaporized into nothingness.

He pulled away from the eyepiece, and the meteor became memories meant to be forgotten.

Bobby glanced again, turning dials and adjusting focus. This time, the shooting star led a blooming train of followers. Fairies danced as they sprinkled enchantments in glittering pulses, granting his wish of a foster family that loved him.
